Seems like a great guy, and great jumps; but I don't think he was undermmarked here b/c of his lack of speed, easy footwork, and skating skills.
It seems that Britain did much better when their skaters were able to win on "style" versus, you know, athletics. Curry and Cousins were great stylists, but it has been a long time since a British skater has been able to compete with the athletic ability of the rest of the world. And I won't even talk about British lady skaters.

Steven was far under-marked here. A number of pros returned, world and Olympic medalists, but Steven really stepped up and met the challenge. What would he have to do get get better marks here? He would have to be somebody else, I'm afraid. He deserved better from the judges, IMNSHO. Thanks again Axel....

Great performance - under marked as usual - should have made the top 5 after the Short no doubt about it. We have not had a British male skater like this since him. His short was even better in Worlds 95 and 96 but still the marks were in the 5.3/5.3 range. What did the poor fella have to do?
