Part 20 of 31 - This video shows you how to make that classic stutter effect on any vocal. Now a vocal stutter won't automatically make your mix better, but sometimes it's exactly what your track needs, so you need to know how to do it.

  • What command keys did you use in grid mode to separate the vocal at 2:40 in the video?

  • @ABC1MCE2 The letter "b" if you are in keyboard focus mode

  • I've been doing this for a long time, I find it useful to use a very tiny fade at the edges of each section, makes the effect sound more "natural" for lack of a better word. Can also add an additional sweeping effect if you crank up the fade. But sometimes clipping audio too quickly can cause some low level pops and clicks which are never wanted, so it gets rid of those too.

  • yesssss. I have a song im going to try this on. I was going to use mute automation but this seems easier

  • protools need a quicker method of accomplishing the stutter...to much work sometimes

  • Another cool thing is if you pitch down that last full part of the note. Nice tutorial!

  • You just Ke$ha'd that junk, yo! :-/

  • thats eighth notes then 16th notes

  • nice little technique thanks

  • @masterofktulu11. hey this may or may not be of use but if you zoom right in and make sure you mute/cut your regions at a point where the waveform crosses zero it won't clip.

This way you keep the snappy feel and since you're only moving the cut by maybe a couple of tics you won't be able to tell that's it's out of sync.
