@a7xdude87 Just throwing another example out there: "Getting off Scot-free" is technically derogatory but over time it's become fine to use. A bit like the word 'ravage' - it's not Scottish but it has a nasty etymtology but is used without an imbied nastiness.

scotland kicks ass!!!

He missed copper wire; invented by two scots fighting over a penny.

@akoustixx A bit strong to use the word demeaning, when it's just a technicality. I mean Fry's planet word was saying that language is an evolving organism. Words change their meaning constantly. 'Sick' & 'wicked' now both mean good. Scotch is used to relate to Scotland (perhaps not in Scotland). I sometimes use Scotch to describe something that relates to Scotland, & I'm half Scottish. If there were more people like Fry, the world would be a lot better off. Try being less pedantic.

@a7xdude87 Mate you should demand better from Stephen (Fry's Planet Word) in relation to the word "Scotch".
it's not splitting hairs when it's overtly deamining to another culture!
-
@akoustixx Splitting hairs a bit aren't we? I mean he could easily come back with a few corrections of your own comment.

Incidentally, chloroform is an amazing plastic solvent.

Cmon Fry your suppose to be intelligent. at 1.00 your use of the word "Scotch" which is an obsolescent adjective meaning having to do with Scotland and usually now considered pejorative unless related to food or drink.
