El Rocco at Bar Me is a live music venue in Sydney's Kings Cross. It was the legendary birthplace of modern Jazz in this country back in the 50's.

Open Mic is a Latin Jazz jam session club every second Monday night at El Rocco. Supported by Daniel Falero (guitar), Pierre Della-Putta (drums), Phil Taig (bass/keys), and Rinske (MC/vox) music is mostly Jazz, latin, bossanova, and other cool rhythms of an impromptu manner. There are no rehearsals, but people filter into the room as the night progresses, many with instruments in hand, charts ready to share, and a desire to join in the jamming.

Folsom Prison Blues was made famous by Johnny Cash. This country jazz version features remarkable talents like Valda Marshall who plays her Flugelhorn like a twenty year old despite being four times older than that. Go Valda! Akiko from Japan comes out of the audience for a beautiful sax solo. There are drum solo, scat singing, fiddle, and bass all lead by Daniel Falero on guitar and vocals.

This wonderful impromptu performance is videoed on a 3GS iPhone on 12th July 2010 - a cold winters night, but the El Rocco was hot with the magic of these musicians enjoying themselves.

(in order of appearance)
Daniel Falero, guitar & vocals, Australia
Phillip Taig, bass, Australia
Pierre Della Putta, drums, Australia
Valda Marshall, flugelhorn, Australia

Akiko, saxophone, Japan

  • Awesome... can I post it on my FB wall and tag them all?

  • @MIKonVIDEO

Please do post this on your FB wall and tag them. Music is for sharing but especially when there is the magic of musicians jamming just for the pleasure of making music like at the El Rocco Open Mic with it all unrehearsed and musicians just spontaneously coming forward from the audience to join in.
