While it is true that being in good shape is preferable to being obese, true martial arts do not absolutely require it. Arts such as Kenpo & Kung Fu have an internal structure that the practitioner must "find." Once said practitioner finds his structure, he can ironically become lazier with his technique (meaning he no longer has to strictly follow textbook motions for the techniques to work). While Mr. Speakman does appear to be over-weight, his Kenpo is better now than when he was young.
See, now, that's the thing if you knew me I might actually take that personal, but because you DON'T you've just revealed how truly pathetic you are. You'll say ANYTHING just to have something to fill the air with. This is a finished conversation.
Kenpo slips the punch & has a number of throws INCLUDING your precious hip throw, as does Silat, and Kali, and Krav, and Systema.
The 1st thing I'll take from a MMA fighter are his eyes. Or maybe when slap him in the jewels (unprotected), buckle his knee the wrong way or wrist hack him in the brain stem. You've placed your faith in a sport, and don't know the first thing about me, or what I do.
I at least see the value in all arts. Even limited value, you punk hater.
That said MMA comes as close to combat reality as a sport between two men can, and still be legal. But legal doesn't save my butt in the street, Princess.
You might have mentioned a number of combat arts, and yet you demo your narrow experience by avoiding, the MCMAP program which embraces arts which I have taught to the Marines at their request. Which INCLUDED Kenpo, or any of a number of Filipino or Indonesian arts.
I have a boxer friend, too. And he's going to be the world champ of the middle weight class. If I were a kid I'd drop names, and live off of someone else's experience, like you.
Krav Maga borrowed heavily from kenpo, check into it.
JKD? Bruce Lee studied Kenpo with Parker.
MMA PLAYS BY RULES, and is therefore a sport.
Street fighting considers surprise attacks, multiple attackers, weapons, and the chemically enhanced. Your sports include THAT?
@KnightlySirJames1 Stop!........ You sound like a young kid, I can just tell. This won't work. How about slipping the punch, grab him around the waist, into a hip throw, into a choke out. You think your know it all, go into a mma camp and fight someone. You will get hurt very bad, Kenpo is useless. Study Krav Maga instead, JKD or even better—MMA. They all transfer to the street.
@KnightlySirJames1 There are too many moves, can't you see that. All that silly spinning is useless. How about a scoop kick to the groin, a double spearhand to the eyes and a power shin to thigh. You are not thinking. Try that on a boxer, Greco/Roman wrestler or a kickboxer, you will fail. I was like you at one time, and believed everything my sensei taught me, until I had a fight with a boxer who could street fight. Kenpo is a mess, so learn real combat arts, not an outdated one.

First off, you have no idea what, or who I am or what process, has led me to my current opinions.
But the fatal mistake made by sportive based arts is the idea of a complete crossover into the street.
I will however admit that the spinny thing gives me some doubts, though everything has a place.
That said, you assume complete knowledge. That IS THE mistake that will snag YOU in the street.
Your boxer ALSO could street fight, hmmm, examine that assumption, please.
