  • Chalchitrrashik, I am sorry to hear about it.

you mentioned that he was 80 and this clip is 25 years old, he doesn't look 65 year old in this clip.

  • It could be that the video was shot at a much earlier date but broadcast later -- 25 years ago?

  • today i just remembered van shipley whom i used to listen on Radio Ceylone some 40 years back and typed the name on search bar. I am pleasantly suprised to see him on you tube. But this van shipley looks very young. Van Shipley which was playing guitar in fiftees must be more than 65 years old. Please tell me what is what.

  • This clip is about 25 years old so Van Shipley is still young looking in it

  • Heart rendering, soul infusing. Please post more of Van Shipley

  • Sorry, this is the only Van Shipley clip I have....

  • DEAR ALL, I m so flabbergasted; there r so many well-wishers of maestro VAN! I grew up on his tunes. We had SUNIL GANGULY AND VAN ON INSTRUMENTS PN THE RADIO TO LOOK FORWARD TO. I M NOSTALGIC N CRYING NOW FOLKS! I miss that ERA!

  • thank you everybody for your wonderful musical van shipley memories! he's gone but not forgotten. van shipley would have celebrated his 82nd birthday on august 30. may his music live on forever.

  • @Rmehtacpa, I agree with you. Van Shipley sounded even better on the violin.

I heard him play "Dheere Dheere Chal" from Love Marriage on the violin. Very rarely it is that a tune by the legendary Shankar Jaikishan sounds better (to me) when played on an instrument (compared to the song itself), but Van Shipley achieved it in that song.

I must say it simply transported me to another realm. An unbelievable rendition.

  • I saw him at a wedding reception when I had barely reached my teens yet and he played "..Babuji Dheere Chalana Payar main jara Sambhalna..." from film Aar Paar............He is indeed a champ of not only the guitar but violin too.........god gifted artist............

  • Yes I have some of his tracks and planning to upload. Please subcribe to my channel for intimation to you.

  • I saw Van Shipley as a young man growing up in Trinidad, he came along with Enoc Daniels and together they mesmorised the people of Trinidad. We all loved this man so much as he brought so much joy to so many people. I understand that he has a daughter who visit this web site. Well dear, you can and must be very proud of him and rightly so. I had a long play record with lots of songs, do not know where it is now. To his daughter, our love, respect and gratitude goes out to your dad.. God Bless

  • Ingrid, please check your e-mail. I used to follow your father's music and have recorded a few tunes in his memory.
