http://www.mda.state.mn.us This time lapse video shows edge of field runoff between March and July 2010. The video documents spring snowmelt as well as summer storms. Snowmelt occurs fairly rapidly, often within a two week time period. Depending on soil moisture and temperature, snowmelt can percolate into the ground or runoff into adjacent streams or ditches. Snowmelt is considered a critical runoff period because significant surface water runoff can occur when the ground is frozen or partially frozen.
The Root River Field to Stream partnership is monitoring at the edge of farm fields to better understand how land management affects runoff and water quality.
