About 2.40 am, 10 or 15 minutes after two power lines landed in my yard, I was waiting for the fire trucks when the transformer blew.

  • Why hasn't the breaker tripped?

  • Good question. I didn't understand why it kept going and going and going at the time. But it did. For hours.

  • I'm cool like a cucumber. ;) The part right at the end was "yeah definitely calling 911 again." The FD finally showed up and parked at the end of my driveway until well into morning. At one point, the truck left and I called to ask what happened. "They had to go get gas." Then they came back and sat there for another several hours. This was BEFORE the big explosion. (My other video.) I was recording from my porch -- I never went anywhere near it, but I couldn't leave either!

  • I dialed 911 to tell them a live power line was down in my yard. They ask me if it was sparking. I said no. They said it's not live if it's not sparking. I said they were full of crap that I worked as an electrician and had went out and checked to see if it was live. IT WAS. NEVER approach downed power lines. They can kill you. Even if 911 says it's safe.

  • obviously doesn't want you to call 911 haha.

  • That happens sometimes. If a powerline falls to the ground and arcs for a very long time, the short can travel all the way up the pole. Since the breakers never activated, that is why the transformer blew also.

  • ahh man what a good video,,, hey i bet after that big explosion you had to go change your underwear,, haha,, i know if that was me, i would have for sure,,,lmao

  • I checked the same way the lineman checked. We looked at the line and seen if any houses were on the same line and seen if those houses were off Since my and two other houses were branched off the same line and there were no switches or other breaks in between and all the houses were on it meant it was hot.

Because the ground can carry a charge that kills only an idiot would check the actual lines on the ground. Even properly suited and protected I don't like the idea of checking a downed line

  • how did you check it?

  • Duh they were live. Was it a paid or voulenteer FD. If it was paid they have No reason to be so late.
