If this happened to me I would be FREAKING out. Escalators are my biggest fear! When I was ten I was on the side of one of the steps and it sucked my foot down the side. It broke my toe and scarred it severely. Every time I ride one it's because there are no stairs and there isn't an elevator that they will just let me in. So I'd probably just about die if that happend

This is actually a very dangerous prank. Trapped shoes on escalator could easily sever the toes, while trapped fingers could get severed just as easily. Even at emergency/panic stop, some escalators will still cover a small distance before coming to a full stop. No amount of cameras could monitor what happened at that time all at once, so it's just an irresponsible stunt.
