As I write this blog and publish the video that goes with it (the video shows the "bug" in progress) , you should know that I'm working with McAfee to get to the bottom of why its anti-virus software is spawning a new little red M (an icon for McAfee) into the tray of the copy of Windows Vista that's running on my wife's new Lenovo Thinkpad R60e. In an effort to isolate the behavior, I finally figured out that it does this every 4 minutes and 10 seconds.

McAfee uses a lot of resources. Mine used up to 170 MB of RAM; can you believe it? I got rid of it and went to TrendMicro, which I've been happy with even though I don't know if it's the best.

I can tell you whats wrong with it. I had this problem. Its because you have vista. Mcafee isnt compatidble.. they say they are but they arent. When this happened to me i was on windows home edition sp2. I called mcafee they didnt know what was wrong. What was happening with me was my comp was BSDing(blue screen of death). Then mcafee updated and i couldnt delete it. so i had to completely reformat my haddrive. so if i was you.. get rid of that program as fast as you can.
