The City of Fort Lauderdale's Centennial Committee has decided to try again to bring a concept from 1990 to reality in time for its Centennial Celebration. Back in 1990, former City employee Susyn Stecchi came up with the idea to put a facade on the FEC railroad bridge that crosses the New River at the Fort Lauderdale Riverwalk. At that time, FEC thought the facade might interfere with the trains. With new technology and techniques, the Riverwalk Gator Bridge is being revisited. If you are interested in finding out more about the Gator Bridge and how you can help, please contact Jo Ann Medalie at the City of Fort Lauderdale Centennial Committee at Beachmedali@aol.com
UPDATE: 16-NOV-2009: People are emailing the City to ask if this proposal is for real; the answer is yes, we are really trying to do this (20 years later is better than never); here is a link to recent media coverage: http://www.google.com/url?sa=X&q=http://blogs.browardpalmbeach.com/juice/...
