Actually Shockwave is INCREDIBLY popular as he was placed on Dark Of The Moon by popular demand. He is most likely the most popular decepticon of all time and this all goes back to G1 days!!!!

Just found it! It was an issue called "Robot Buster". The autobots built a "battlesuit" for Buster Witwicky, and he does indeed battle Shockwave.
Totally forgot about that one!

No, it was nothing to do with the Headmaster/Nebulous thing. It was like a giant exo-suit(not a transformer) for a human...I think the Witwicky in the story was like "I can take him on my own...without help" and despite shooting shockwave in the eye, he is saved by another Autobot...I cannot remember who it was though.

This song fits Shockwave more than other songs I've heard so far. It is spartan, rhythmic, and controlled. The singer has a kind of bridled fury to his voice. Nice!
