I like the new rules. Kites fighting for points, rather than to cut the other down. Traditionally fighter kites would have 50 to 100 feet of string nearest to the kite coated with glass powder. This part would do the cutting. Trouble is, it will cut most other things as well!! :-O
2 fighters stand in 2 circles near each other with their short-lined (& generally smaller & faster) fighting kites hovering parallel in the air. A ref flips a coin/uses a random generator and calls "top" or "bottom" and they maneuver their kites so that their line will be the first to cross and touch their opponent's line on the called side. It's like sword fighting, except you want to avoid getting crossed or touched. You can google it & see videos here -but it can happen 2 fast 2 really see!
How did you guys work out how to make the strings cut eachother?
I'm doing an english project on kite running and would like to make one, but don't exactly feel like rolling 100 feet of string in glass and paste. There MUST be some alternative...
Cool. B-D

North American Kite fighting uses the more genteel "line touch" alternative. Saves your kite and no people or birds are sliced in the process.
