Equipment: Devastator (Str +10%), Hawkeye (Sensor), Haste Targe (SOS-Haste), Regen Targe (SOS-Regen, HP +10%), Shell Targe (SOS-Shell), Serum Targe (Poison Ward, HP+10%)


In Home I did some levelling so I could backtrack on Rikku's grid to the area with some stat nodes blocked by a Level 4 Lock, which I opened with the key sphere from Home. This gave Rikku some more HP and Def / Mag Def.

The battle with Evrae was quite interesting and complex. There may well be a better way to do it but this is the best I could come up with. I can't remember how many unsuccessful attempts I had but it wasn't too many (maybe eight or nine). I got into a random battle on the Airship to get Rikku to SOS-HP so she could start in Haste. The Hot Knuckles aren't useful because Evrae resists all elements so I stuck to the trusty Devastator.

HP damage is not really a problem in this battle; what makes it hard is that you must avoid Stone Gaze. With Stone Ward petrification is only inflicted 50% of the time but since we can't also have SOS-Haste equipped the huge Delay Rikku would suffer would mean Game Over anyway.

Evrae's close attack pattern goes like this: attack, attack, inhale, Poison Breath (repeat).

Stone Gaze can be used instead of an attack *if* the Stone Gaze counter is at six points. The counter increases by two each time Rikku attacks Evrae. This is why I could not attack more than twice before Evrae's second attack (otherwise Stone Gaze would have been used).

Because of Evrae's Haste I couldn't kill her before Poison Breath so I had to just take the damage and hope Poison Ward kicked in. The important thing was to remember to switch back to SOS-Haste after the breath. I got to this stage a few times but it was only on this try that I got the crit needed to finish Evrae off before its next turn (which would have been Stone Gaze since it was an attack turn).
