Feel Like Makin' Love - Roberta Flack (1974)

"Feel Like Makin' Love" was a song composed by singer-songwriter Eugene McDaniels, and recorded originally in 1974 by soul singer-songwriter Roberta Flack. It was released from the album of the same title, Flack's fifth solo album, which featured supporting performers such as Patti Austin, Bob James, Ralph MacDonald and Deniece Williams. The song became one of the greatest musical successes of 1974, as well as of Roberta Flack's recording career. It scored a week as number one on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, making it Flack's third #1 single. It also scored five weeks at number one on the Hot Soul Singles chart, and two weeks as #1 on the Adult Contemporary chart. Flack produced the record herself under the pseudonym Rubina Flake. "Feel Like Makin' Love" went on to receive three Grammy Award nominations for Flack: Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Vocal Performance, Female. Roberta Flack (born February 10, 1937, in Black Mountain, North Carolina) is an American singer, songwriter, and musician who is notable for jazz, soul, R&B, and folk music. In 1999, a star with Flack's name was placed on Hollywood's Walk of Fame. Flack is a member of the Artist Empowerment Coalition, which advocates the right of artists to control their creative properties. Flack is also currently a spokesperson for the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. In the Bronx section of New York City, the Hyde Leadership Chart School's after-school music program is called 'The Roberta Flack School of Music' and is in partnership with Flack, who founded the school, which provides free music education to underprivileged students. This channel is dedicated to all the great 'old school' R&B music I grew up with, the stuff that originally made me tap my feet and want to be a DJ. Beautiful song, but give a special listen when she sings the chorus part for the first time...if you take out the vocals, what you have left is what sounds like typical background music on a Goodson-Todman game show from, say, 1974, when the announcer (typically Johnny Olson) hawks a smaller prize (e.g., a washer/dryer, refrigerator, oven) or a grocery item (e.g., Ragu spaghetti sauce)
