DIY project from "Music From Outer Space( MFOS)"

16 step analog sequencer designed by Ray Wilson

I expend the last two months building this project. It's almost finished, only cosmetic things left but it's totally functional.

The sequence on this video is only for show the posibilites of the sequencer, doesn't have musical purpose. The audio is mix 20/80 phone camera / computer recording

The main features of this sequencer are :

- 16 steps
- Every Step has Gate On/off
- Coarse and Fine tune pots for programming
- Internal clock with variable rate
- Clock Out
- Synced start with external signal
- Clock in ( work slaved to external clock )
- Voltage out with or without portamento and simultaneous available

what does "gate" mean in this context?

  • @GentleSavage1 CV/Gate is the a method to control analog synths without midi. This control use two signals , CV that controls pitch and Gate that indicates note on/off

  • Very nice! I have to ask, if there was there some kind of bug in 2:38? It looks like step 1 led stayed on?

  • it's just a problem with the video codec

  • but I need a power transformer 12 V ac and 12 ac mfos two modules connected in parallel? or just a one module?

I installed everything but I can not understand how the power goes

    thanks a lot

  • Fantastic .... I love it :)

  • Hi Thalassa77, this is a nice sequencer that you've built! I would like to build one myself too but I would like to have the ability to control gate length (note length) of each step instead of having only gate on/off on each step like the original design provides. Do you know if this would be possible to achieve by modding the original circuit somehow?

  • @harvestarr What you say is like say that you don't understand why people still making oleo paintings if you can take a picture with your phone...... This big synths are different to the "portable synths" , not better or worst just different.

  • @Thalassa77 I don't understand why there are so much synths in such big racks. you can't even comfortably put it in your backpack and take it somewhere on noise-party to show and rock it up. (if you will go by car, you can't drink) you can show it only to friends that come into your garage...

  • That riff starting 5:12 onwards works.

  • @Thalassa77

    ah, I see, thanks!

  • That is one mental box of tricks you have there.
