It's usually not good for the engine, but I only ran it for a few seconds.

  • I don't think so....can anyone tell me if that rocker cover is on a special hinge? if so can it be taken off the hinge easily for better access to the valves?

  • The crank cover appears to be on a hinge, but it's not. A rubber coolant hose holds it in place in the video. (The valve cover is on the other side of the bike.)

  • Not good for the engine but an interesting way of checking your oil pump delivery :), certainly wouldn't condone it but very interesting video.

  • I love how it just kinda diarrhea'd all the oil out.

  • Thank you very interesting to see how much oil gets splashed around in the crank case. I was always wondering how much oil really gets to the top of the bore when the piston is at TDC. Now I can imagine.

  • Not good for the engine? No shit man haha the whole bottom end is running without oil. But yeah, you get almost no oil flow on engine startup so same thing.

  • @schlusselmensch 'Anarchy of production' is the term well suited to the auto industry. Things designed to wear out prematurely, rust, wobble, loosen, etc. The wealthy hire the best engineers (terrorists) to keep us in our place. Contrast that to the megalithic constructions of the Atlanteans, which were designed to last 1000's of yrs. Vehicles, ships, submarines, airplanes, etc. were operated with wireless transmission towers in those days. Crystal energy.

  • @seapeddler Yeah, I've worked on Type 17s since they came out in '75. On the German built cars the water came in the radio antenna body grommet and ran into the connection blocks in the back of the panel. And the fuel pump relay could be counted on to zorch its connections, the list went on and on. Don't even get me started on 911s! Anyway, I'll bite, what the heck does "anarchous" mean?

  • @schlusselmensch On a similar note, I recall the fuse panels from the 80's Rabbit cars. The BMW mechanicals are reasonably sound, but the peripherals are anarchous. But that is perhaps what makes it fun, as you learn things ; and hopefully, not by accident.

  • @seapeddler Well, K75s were and still are used as courier bikes in Europe and over 300,000kms. is reasonably common. And that's stop and go traffic. They're very tough but come with the usual German faults;

    inadequate for the job electrical connectors, 1 or 2 goofy design sillies that they stick with like grim death, and a requirement for too many special tools coupled with arcane repair procedures. Properly serviced, K engines are more or less immortal.

  • Good German Quality!!!!!!

  • A sensible engine with 5 mains compared to a Mazda V6 which uses only 4.

    Are more main bearings better? We need mileage testinmonials from more BMW owners.

  • That was deffo worth the mess, Wouldnt it be great to see engine run with no cylinder head, i know the implications of that by the way
