First of all, it's spelled "soul". And it's his own interpretation of the song. It's quiet because he's quiet. It's empty because he feels empty. I saw the revival on Broadway with Gavin Creel and he was...absolutely stunning. I love this musical but never care for Claude - until Gavin Creel. It was the first time the character really got to me. It was heartbreaking. It was perfect. And I do think there's some soul here. But it's a quiet soul.

@foxnews63 If i couldn't imagine Creel singing this I would understand your sentiment, but having seen this live, with Gavin Creel singing it, I can vouch for the fact that it is sung with so much pain and feeling. Go and see the revival, you'll be pleasantly surprised
