Doug and Jack may come from different walks of life, but both men are building their Braddock homes brick by brick. Taking pride in their work, and advantage of the opportunities on the new frontier, Doug and Jack share in the belief that anything is possible when you set your mind to it. Brought to you by Levi's in partnership with IFC and Sundance Channel.
@executiveassistant07 The only thing Braddock has going for it is its cheap property and proximity to Pittsburgh, where some jobs are returning. These jobs are in the service industry, however, and it remains to be seen whether they are sustainable. Unless Braddock is able to lure businesses, it will never be able to re-capture the identity and pride that once vitalized the region. All that will happen here is some cleared lots and restored buildings. It's more of a clean up than anything.

@executiveassistant07 The South Bronx and Braddock are totally different situations. Braddock is just one of many old mill towns in Western PA. The mills and their strategic locations on the Allegheny, Monongahela, and Ohio River valleys were the only reason towns like this thrived. When the mills left, there was no longer an economy capable of sustaining the surrounding communities. Pittsburgh's population is currently half of what it was 60 years ago when the mills were at their peak.

I watched the entire documentary on IFC recently...great piece on the continuing evolution of Braddock. Very slight changes from the documentary to the clips posted here, but great to watch these.

They need to do a video on what is happening in the South Bronx (NYC) someday. They are tearing down the old, but have started to rebuild. I would be curious to see what happens in this town (all grass land, built up, or kinda in between), as I see the South Bronx gong to be an extension of Manhattan - but more yards, trees, and smaller neighborhoods without the empty lots or abandoned buildings.
