When visiting downtown Healdsburg, a visit to 'Artiste tasting studio' is a must! Artistes' wines are made in the same manner as an impressionist painting - they are meant to tell a story but one where the viewer, or the taster in this case, develops their own impression of what it is they are experiencing. Winemaker Bion Rice blends grapes from different varietals, regions and vintages to create his own unique work of art. He refers to his wines as Impressionist Cuvees.
The tasting studio doubles as a working art studio fashioned in the 1870's era, when Impressionist painting was at its' peak. On any given day you may see a professional artist painting the rendition of a new wine label, or you may even approach the canvas yourself and try your hand with a brush and a pot of paint.
The Healdsburg tasting room is the second for Artiste. Their first is located in Historic Old Santa Ynez, CA.
