In 2008, Captain Hopes Kids received and distributed 495,535 items valued at $640,490 to homeless infants and children at 38 different agencies in North Texas which included an estimated $474,450 worth of in-kind items. $134,704 was the value of items distributed for education (back packs, school supplies, school uniforms, etc.).
One in 50 children in the U.S. are homeless, and with more foreclosures and job losses expected this year, the numbers are likely to get worse.
What do you imagine when you think of the homeless?
