Have President Obama's Af-Pak plans cast a shadow over Indo-US relations and perhaps introduced an element of tension between India and Pakistan? That is the key issue Karan Thapar( http://connect.in.com/karan-thapar/profile-159263.html ) discussed in this week's Devil's Advocate with the Minister of State for External Affairs, Shashi Tharoor( http://connect.in.com/shashi-tharoor/profile-656.html ).......

.....Shashi Tharoor: But the point is that we are not the US and we don't have to agree with everything they say and the way they do it, but this particular speech had nothing to do with us. The only thing is that when pressure is eased on the al-Qaeda and Taliban( http://connect.in.com/taliban/profile-522879.html ) in Afghanistan and Pakistan, it adds to the pressure on us and therefore it is a good thing for us that that aspect of the problem is dealt with and those people are left on the backfoot.......

  • is shashi tharoor a BBI(british born Indian)?

  • @pipeorganloverNJP I agree to some extent what you mean. However, I feel this interview should be taken off youtube now as ALL the UNSC members (apart from China) have shown their support to India regarding 26/11 and terrorism in general when they visited India in December 2010. So, I think Mr. Thapar has got the answers he tried to get. The UNSC members (apart from China) even spat on Pakistan with saying that cross border terrorism is not accepted.

  • What is the purpose of this interview if Karan expresses his own, personal opinions, whatever they may be? Teh object of this interview is to convey Shashi Tharoor's response to THEIR opinions.

  • *expressing

  • Actually, Karan's expression the view that the majority of Indians have. The majority of Indians think that the US is not being fair to them by talking only about Pakistan. I know this because that's the opinion many of my school teachers and classmates expressed in high school when I studied in India until a while back.

  • @shaddy12- U r wrong!!! By calling pakistan an ally, obama ws actually taking a diplomatic tactic.. He ws encouragin pakistan to stop terrorism. There is absolutely no need for talking about Indian attacks when he is involved in a speech where the object was different!

  • wht are u guys talking abt.. karan thappar s a very intelligent man.. he is adressing his concern regarding neglect of the U.S towards the problem of terrorism tht india is facing.. he s clearly pointing out that U.S is calling pakistan an ally and is not ready to acknowledge pakistan as a threat and thereby encourageing pakistan to carry on their support to various terrorist groups..

  • he's just a journalist from an old school of thought, he doesn't believe that india can survive on its own because india has been purged in the past.

  • and to top all that - his only argument is based on an obama speech that he probably watched on youtube.. karan yapper.. lol

  • Does this idiot Karan Thapar think that India is the only concern for the US. Tharooor is so clearly explaing the American view point to him yet this fool is arguing with him. If he is a journalist he should know that India is not he only country in this world for Amricans to worry about.
