@RalfsLab It's just a deception by the studios to try and sell more of the same videos by thinking your getting something new. I noticed the same problem with the snake scene in The Hills Have Eyes, in the VHS you can see the snake's head at the bottom of the screen but the letterbox on the DVD cut the snake's head off.
@RalfsLab I haven't checked the FS version that is on the DVD, I have the NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET DVD BOXSET only and it features only widescreen versions so i'll check it up, although i guess New Line cinema wouldn't make pan-and-scan versions of those films for their FS counterparts knowing that they have the masters for an open matte version with no image sacrifice but more to offer on top and bottom. They feature those masters on the Laserdiscs.
@murdlok I understand about the various methods of getting different aspect ratios for the same movie, but I still prefer getting more visual information on the VHS rather than being smothered in close-ups on the DVD. The theatrical aspect might be what the film makers wanted us to see, but the standard screen DVD version could have at least stayed the same instead of matting the sides of the theatrical version, which was already matted at the top and bottom.
I just used this video to compare the picture size of the Nightmare 3 DVD. As I suspected, both the widescreen and full screen DVD versions show less picture than the VHS. The DVDs chop off the tops of peoples head. That's just stupid. Why?!
Anyway,it was fun to see this commercial again. It was on the Nightmare 5 VHS.

That's a great commercial. The art on that VHS box set looks awesome. Never seen that before.
