I am the founder of The Majority United. I campaigned for Terry O'Neill and I am damned proud of that. I supported Sarah Palin and I am damned proud of that too! I am especailly proud that I campaigned for increasing NOW membership since January 2009 because ALL women need to unite and need an unbiased nationalvoice and the old NOW wasn't cutting it.
From a reader
NOW is a deeply divided organization with questionable financial practices including the NOW Foundation transfers to the NOW organization. There is something seriously wrong when three top officers who barely do anything receive salaries totalling millions while victims of Honor Killings, domestic violence, media verbal slander, all forms of slavery, etc. get no help and Hillary got ZERO support from this group as well. They have a lot of fixing to do.
Look at the membership. It is 100% Democratic and 0% Republican. In other words, it hs been functioning as an arm of the Democratic party higher-ups, doing whatever their male chiefs told them to do. HOW IS THAT A FEMINIST ORGANIZATION? NOW needs to expand to let in all women while not compromising its basic principles. Otherwise, this organization will continue to be more about dirty Dem. pollitics than a true women's group. The new leadership has a chance to make REAL change only if they are not Obama or Democratic party puppets
We do not all have to agree on all issues in order to get along! Why are we fighting each other? Independents and Democrats who supported Palin are not Sarah supporting PRO- Life feminists who are determined to take away Pro - Choice, that is a scare tactic of the loosing campaign and it has no place in a woman's organization.
Yes - many women who supported Hillary Clinton and were disgusted with the way the Democrats and the old NOW team treated her supported Sarah Palin and yes they now support Terry O'Neill and yes we probably put her over the top but we are not trying to take away Pro Choice.
We are ProChoice but we are also pro Women - Pro ALL women - we are simply tired of being ALL Abortion all the time! All Democrat all the time - all Liberal all the time- we are not lemmings we are women! We can think for ourselves. We are tired of being held hostage by the two parties to the same old bullshit.
I made it very clear that I supported Palin - I never hid this fact before, during or after the vote- none of us did. I was one of the organizers at the FireDavidLetterman.com Rally- I was on Greta the night before I came to Indianopolis staing NOW left half of America's women behind.
I am saddened that many good women felt the need to deny Sarah Palin as if she were a Pariah and many women feel a stronger connection to a party than they do to their sisters. I am an Independent- worked my heart out for Hillary - then I voted for Sarah- I am Pro Choice but I could not personally get an abortion - Why don't I deserve a seat at this table?
Is it any wonder that we have not passed an Equal Rights Amendment and is it any wonderthat women are not equal under our Constitution? Neither side wants to budge so we remain divided and we continue to fail to have representation in government. AND is it any wonder that is just the way those in power would like it to stay!
I have come to the center where choice means choice- there is room for us all. The far right and left are so convinced that the other is enemy - that they have make it so- stop and listen to those of us in the center. Indeed- I have no intention of taking away your choice stop taking away mine!
Dems and Indep support Palin because Women's rights are Human rights and that is reason enough to demand the end of sexism and misogyny.
A women's group that does not stand up for a women because of her political affiliation is not a women's organization it is a political organization. NOW did not start out that way- and with a new President - it will return to the original intent! An organization for ALL women's rights!
