  • Have same exact issue, dead on side of road typing this on iPhone. What did it end up being?

  • @tjlmbklr Rod knock, never found out what, sold it as-is

  • Hows it going? Hey, did you ever figure out what that engine noise was? I have a 2000 JGC that's doing the exact same thing.

  • @feedeezee Some sort of rod knock, New engine installed is around 2600 so its currently sitting in driveway for sale.

  • @enigma02g That sucks...was having the engine torn down and rebuilt not an option or just not worth the headache?

  • @feedeezee Not worth it, used engine is around 1500, rebuilt engine around 2200 + 1k in labor for swap. For someone that has all the tools and can do it themselfs they could have it up and running for 1500

  • I have the same knock in my 2000 JGC engine with 153k and i know that theres no definite answer to what the problem could be, i had the oil changed and thats when the knock started to occur, the truck rides good, its just this problem thats happening now, what should i do and is it worth it to get it fixed?

  • driver side rod

  • Had the Same Prob on my 1999 Jeep Cherokee with 152k on it.

Tore into it and it turned out that the timing chain guides had broken off and got down into the oil pan and where restricting oil flow from the pump to the motor.

Changed the chains and guides and all was good. It was crazy the left bank was retarded 7 degs. and was still running fine besides the knock. I guess it was such a gradual wear that the computer compensated for the timing.

    Good Luck

  • I had that same noise in my 99 JGC. the bottom bearings got washed out and seized up due to a cracked oil cooler line, hence getting anti-freeze and water mixed into the oil. it may not always be the case, but it might be if it has been overheated

  • @blkfreedom03 roflmao

  • @mrscooby29 well, you're an idiot.

  • there are no rods its a over head cam it has valve lash adjusters!!!

  • @enigma02g ok, thanks for the info...take it easy
