@ericjkent Well, they did win there in 1969 (and 1973 as well, but in a less active role), but the book chronicles the near-misses with the Turbocars in 1967 and '68 and what Granatelli swore was a scoring error that cost his team the 1966 race. His depiction of the '66 race had some glaring errors in it, though, so who knows?

@soylentteal "They Call Me Mister 500" was a very interesting read for anyone interested in the history of the Indy 500.The Granatelli's never had much luck at Indy but they were there every year for a long time.

To bad an OFFY won the race as usual
-
Good ol' Andy Granatelli: He built the loudest engine ever at Indy, and he also built the most quiet...

Fantastic! Love it! What a great period in Indycar racing! The sport, Indy and us fans really miss Mr. Carnegie! RIP
-
Granatelli's book "They Call Me Mister 500," chronicles that incredible engine's history very thoroughly. Long out of print, but not hard to find.

Tom Carnegie will be missed. The race is just not the same without him. The race is still good, but not nearly as good without being able to listen to Tom Carnegie on the scanner. Hands down the greatest announcer I have heard before.

Look at yahoo groups and search for Racing History and join if you are interested. You Tube will not allow me to post the link directly to the group.

@brooklandsspeedway . it would be cool to join this group. Love the Indy 500, grew up less than a mile and still live about mile away. I was hooked as a 10 year old boy , when I saw Jimmy Bryan, my favorite driver, win the '58 race in the Belond AP Special
A revised clip, with the proper Bobby Unser Pic: "WITH A TREMENDOUS ROAR!"....#6 NOVI, 1963 Indy 500.:

Wow...Nothing like the Novi at speed down the front stretch at Indy! I loved the echo it made sitting under the stands on Qualification day. Thanks for posting it this is a real treat!

@indystang I dare say, that if you had been alive then, you could have heard it from your front porch!

@MaryMagpie Most interesting comment from a wee Irish (1/2) lass! I, to, seem to prefer practice & qual. to the actual race...curious. My channel wraps itself around a few other INDY clips you'll like...go in & enjoy!
