Gainesville activists held a protest march against Gov. Rick Scott's policies, including his budget cuts, on March 26. They spoke on the University of Florida's Plaza of the Americas and marched to City Hall to show Gainesville's unity in opposing the cuts.

  • you people are a bunch of idiots. Just a bunch of pro-big labor, pro-big government, Marx-sympathizing, Occupy Wall Street goons masquerading as pro-education 'Samaritans.' Education, especially higher education, is not a right. If you can't pay, you can't go to college. Whata fucking concept.

  • @jtizzi I didn't say they didn't pay taxes, but your entire salary is funded by public dollars. I am in favor of solid government services and competent service delivery. Unfortunately many public employees do not care about their jobs and do a pathetic job when it comes to service delivery. I assure you that many Americans would be willing to pay higher taxes if the government did an acceptable job with service delivery.

  • @JohnRhysMusician As a public employee I can ensure you that I pay taxes. Would you like to support your baseless claims about Republicans, Liberals, and maybe define what a moderate is?

  • @jtizzi Public employee unions pay net negative taxes because their income is coming from taxpayers. Liberals pay less taxes because there are less liberals than there are moderates and conservatives and liberals make less money period on average than conservatives or Republicans.

  • @JohnRhysMusician Unions and liberals pay taxes and are working people too. Unions exist to make sure all working people are given the chance to live and work with dignity.

  • @JollyJeepers The working people are the ones paying the taxes. Unions and liberals have everything screwed up in their heads.

  • Gainesville unites against Rick Scott? Wow, what a shocker. There's nothing in Gainsville but the University of Florida. So this looks like a bunch of liberal college kids and their public union teachers complaining that Governor Scott is actually making bold and fresh action. The status-quo is unsustainable for state employee pensions and benefits. What's the solution? Raise taxes? That will only cause businesses to flee the state -- businesses that can bring the jobs Florida desperately needs.
