My hyacinth macaw parrot Jake shooting a basket. He loves to run and tear things up so this is fun for him. He is 18 years. I raised him from a baby of 4 months. He is not wild caught. Parrots demand a LOT of care and a LOT of attention. They are very social creatures not to be just left in a cage. They are very intelligent and need a great deal of love and social interaction. More than most people have the time or patience for. They can be loud and destructive if unhappy. They are also very long lived. Please educate yourself about their care before considering a parrot. For most people I DO NOT recommend getting a hyacinth as a pet. Thank you for reading.

  • How hard is it to get a Hyacinth? I don't mean keep, I know about that, but what about the availability, and price? (do you think it would be possible to keep a breeding couple tame to humans?)

  • I guess it would depend on the pairs personality and how they feel about people in general. As for how hard, I don't know anymore. I have had Jake for almost 20 years. Bonded pairs are very expensive. Maybe 20 to 30 k I have heard.

  • how old do parrots live up to?

  • Depending on what type of parrot, some can live up into their 80's 90's. Jake here is one of them : )

  • beautiful bird.... i'm very glad u put the info about ownership... they are definitely not for everyone...i wish more people would research before taking on a bird like this....so unfair to the bird........ur such a great animal mama.

  • Thank so much Ojos.....It's important that people know the reality of caring for such a busy long-lived bird. Any bird really. Truly more care and responsibility than most people can handle.

  • You do know that this Blue Macaw is in extintion right? There are less than 70 in the world RIGHT NOW. By the way, I love him :D Hes smart! Congratulations on being one of the lucky people to own one of those.

  • How long did it take to teach him that?

  • I love hyacinths :) they are so beautiful and intelligent. they're pretty scary/intimidating though. they could bite you only trying to play and take your nose off. I used to have a molluccan cockatoo and he bit me on the nose once (not that hard). it was scary as shit. I know he would never try to hurt me though.

  • Blu is a spix macaw but to be honest he looks like a hyacinth without the yellow cheeks

  • ITS BLU!

  • @greyparrot266 I have seen breeding pairs go for as little as 15-20k but if you want a tame breeding pair the only way to go is to raise them from babies. Even then they will be aggressive during breeding season to anything or anyone that gets too close to their nest.

  • if it only sings like in rio

  • Does he try to feed the dog like a baby bird? Our parrot does.

  • My dream bird!
