My November update is a little somber since one of my emerald crabs went serial killer and ate half of the fish in the tank. I was setting traps for a mantis shrimp when I caught him in the act killing a clown. Fortunately I had a pair of chopsticks handy... and let's just say that my serpent star had an early thanksgiving dinner (still shots on Flickr!). Anyway, I lost my blue tang, 2 ocellaris clowns, a pink skunk clown and 3 green chromis damsels.

  • you emerald killed your blue tang?...it killed your other fish too that's kind of scary how long did you have the emerald before it started killing? I have 2 emeralds as well and so far they haven't done any harm to my smaller fish (2 clowns, 2 clown gobies, shrimp goby, blue damsel).

  • I was surprised but I have heard that sometimes they will go after smaller fish if they aren't getting fed enough. I feed the tank twice a day with dry food in the morning and meat in the evening. Three times a week I also put in dried seaweed for the tangs and angel. I guess the emerald was getting them overnight while they were sleeping. I was really surprised by the blue tang though. He was a little larger than the size of a silver dollar.

  • Very nice. I'm looking around at other 100 gallon tanks. I just upgraded too. A big jump like you! 29 Gallon BioCube to a 100 gallon. lol So I'm getting ideas. Hey so really? Emerald crab did that?!? I have one... and I hope I don't have mantis shrimp! I hear a clicking noise at night but every week or so. Never lost anything so I hope it's not a mantis. lol Your tank looks good!!

  • love the tank bro.. good stuff..

how do you keep your xenia so small? is it new or do you frag?

like the FOREST of zoos and shrooms too..

    keep up the good work

  • purple firefish are really common. What you on about

  • I really like the Xenia. I had a pink PomPom Xenia once. The Xenias are easy to propagate.
