adapted music arrangement demo
acoustic guitar & vocals Ron Lindeman
music arrangement by Richard Poot of
Pro Music Studio at Eemnes Holland
(written by A.Marly/H.Zaret/Bernard)made famous by Leonard Cohen, 1969)

My personal thoughts on making music:
1) Music to me is by definition emotions. A song is an island filled with deep emotions and feelings and a song must be able to touch the listener in the heart and soul.
2) I don't believe in simply copying the orginal. Try to change a song into your own version of it. For instance in the way you play an instrument and/or sing or change tempo or add different musical arrangements, etc.
3)I don't mind playing covers of songs. In the classical music world almost everything consists of covers. The musicpieces of composers are often centuries old.In popular music it's no problem playing songs written and recorded by others.Just add what is specifically your own.
4) Music is always subject to people's personal taste. Your background, culture, the country you live in, your environment, etc, are factors that may influence your musical taste. But all humans have emotions and feelings. With music you can touch someone in the heart and soul and arouse emotions and feelings.
5) pure technical skills don't necessarily mean that a music piece or song is conceived as beautiful.
6) it are the listeners that will judge your songs and music. Not you as the musician or other people in the music business.

  • A memorable performance! Congratulations, and thanks for putting it on the web.

  • My pleasure and thank you for your kind words.

  • Ron, this version is simply beautiful. I agree with your thoughts on music, too. Cheers from Croatia, the place of the strongest East-European partisan movement in WWII.

  • Thanks for your comment, I wish you all the best in this new year 2008! Peace to you! from Ron

  • Man, I just can't believe it... As a Cohen's unconditional fan... I'm so impressed. Be blessed !

  • Yeah, I love this song too because it reflects the resistance of those who are oppressed

  • Woah, this is great. I love this song, i'm a big Cohen fan.

I like the conga's and your voice together, very traveling in the desert kind of feeling.

You're voice is the sound of the mysterious knight that won't set the sun. 5 stars.

  • It's the second time I find your channel while searching for versions of a song I love(First time was "Old lovers's song"). I admire both Brel and Cohen, and this song has a particular resonance for me as the son of a deportee and the grandson of a resistant who one day actually was "the only one this evening".

And you're still as expressive and vibrant. Congratulations again.
