This is the meeting of The Oktibbeha County Humane Society, held in the fellowship hall of the Starkville, Mississippi First United Methodist Church, on Thursday evening January 26, 2012. The program was Mrs. Rachel Lee, and Lex. Mrs. Rachel Lee is the Mother of Marine Cpl, Dustin Jerome Lee, a K9 trainer, and handler, who was killed in Iraq, in March 2007, and Lex,shown here was with Dustin when he was killed. The Lees and Lex travel all over Mississippi, and other states, visiting veterans homes, schools, nursing homes, and with families in several states, who have lost family members in wars, telling of their experience with the loss, and how they have dealt with it. The Lees are strong advocates of a bill needing to be passed reclassifying war dogs as veterans, and not only as equipment. War dogs, now, are classified as equipment, which means they have no guarantee of help with medical expenses, after they have risked their lives, protecting our American soldiers. This meeting was the first for them to make a meeting, here in this area like this,, and was well atended. There is a facebook page created for Lex, called," Angels For Lex.", which is growing.
