No I think there is a lot of good stuff in the bible, however there is a lot of shit, and any time you devote yourself to something entirely you become controlled by it and are unable to think for yourself. When that happens things like the crusades, the inquisition, or to a lesser extent prop 8 happen.

So where is this 'shit' you are talking about, in the New Testament? And, when viewed against all the good parts, does it take up a large percentage of it?

So, you think that if only people would 'think' for themselves that they would accept homosexuality? What you fail to realize is that we do not only perceive morality cognitively (thinking our way to it) but we also have inherent emotional and spiritual values, which all your thinking can't do away with. The Bible echoes that, unchangably.

You don't want me to sit here and tell you everything thats wrong in the bible, it would take far to long. the short version is there's a lot of sexism, homophobia, and blatant intolerance for anyone who believes other than you, as well as discouragement towards open thought. The entire book is hypocritical to the point of madness with statements like thou shallt not kill, followed by a chapter in which the chosen people lead a crusade into their promised land and slaughter the natives.

So can you tell me fast what is right about the Bible? And is it far more than is wrong with it? I mean the New Testament which is what Christians try to live by. I hope you agree there, so we don't have to go over all the things the New Testament has corrected by way of Jesus Christ, Son of God.

It is only recently work has become managable for women, hard farmwork women are not cut out for. At the time, it was practical, and necessary, to protect women from chores beyond them.

The things in the bible worth noting are things like love thy neighbor as thine self, thou shalt not kill, help those in need, and live an overall good life. However these are overshadowed by things like pushing your beliefs on others, and the ultimate control the church wields. Its not that the bad things in the bible outweigh the good, the parts of the bible that are good are indeed necessary, but they get drowned out in all the hatred and bigotry which people seem to cling to so easily.

Do you think women could or should drive a plow behind an oxen an entire day? Also, one place it says women must wear head covering in Church but in the same chapter it says men are expressly forbidden to wear it, so the rules go both ways. Also so in marriage, a woman is told to be deferent and an example of holiness but in the same paragraph, men are told to be willing to die for the wives as Jesus dies for His Church. It isn't sexism when both sexes have equally difficult things to live by.

Last, homophobia. Part of the tenets of Christian thinking and morality is, what does it matter a man to gain the whole world if he loses his soul. That is where homosexuality, and other illicit sexual acts come from, wanting power, money, to look the best, to be number one always, to be above having to work (sloth) etc etc. The mindset in those who practice homosexual acts, whether they have an inclination to it or not normally, is based in sin. You have to be a sinner to want to ACT on it=Sin!

Its not your belief in a god from which these issues arise, its how tenaciously you cling to them without thinking about it for yourself without the filter of a bible or anything/anyone else, if all your morals come from the bible then you have no true morals you only have what others have brainwashed you into thinking.
