I have a question. What is a grounder antenna made of? ALso can i use any thing for a grounder fm/am radio antenna? Thanks

@kc9aop doing it this way makes for a very good vertical with good performance not just a compromise though my issues were not really in regard as to how a wire vertical like this performs thanks anyway take note everyone this a great guy here.

johnrob281 who gives an extensive two part review of this antenna - if he is not involved in the production and sale of this antenna and he has genuinely and honestly bought the item and just reviewing it like he says then why did he block my comments straight away ? makes me think.

@kc9aop i think another great way is just to simply use a telescopic aluminium mast use actual alu mast as vertical section just isolate the bottom of it from the ground and if you require it longer you could simply use a stainless steel whip at top mind ok if you have mast otherwise more expensive this way.

@kc9aop Thanks for being a real man and discussing things through as this is what we all need to do not block people for their opinions that aint good you seem like a real great fellow thanks. for information i have a par end fedz mono dipole up on a telescopic fibreglass mast running vertical up it and thats a real killer for performance and the pole has been in over 80 mph winds and no problem thats mile per hour not km also need no radials on this as is dipole end fed.

@kc9aop so for me to sum it up they are selling you fibreglass telescopic pole - a length of wire - and information on manuals so you are paying for information on which other parts you will require to complete the antenna and use this in a couple different ways - i think they recommend parts they produce which will cost you so thats one way they will make their money oh i just dont know anymore be honest it past me thanks.

@kc9aop the only point in buying this is if it works out cheaper or little difference between say purchasing your own fibreglass windsock telescopic pole and a length of wire which you might even have already thats it you will still require a unun for multiband and so on sorry you get two manuals which you require for this antenna making it out to be complex they are just selling you information on what you need to work a length of wire and what parts you require so you have go buy them.

i just dont like the fact of turning a simple home made antenna in to something commercial giving it a fancy name s9v as if making out it something new and great you do not even get a full antenna only part of it the rest is on paper right telling you what you need so you might aswell make your own as you are making your own anyway the rest antenna not included just on paper this is my point its a length of wire and a telescopic fibreglass flag windsock pole with a couple holes drilled in it.
@RIDDICKorigional Its all bout the hobby and enjoying it! I generally agree that making claims that something is far better than it is, or that it is somehow magical is not right. When I read the literature and the reviews of the S9 I never got the idea that they were stretching the truth too much. Since I do know a little bit about antennas and have contact with other Hams to get opinions, maybe I was better able to understand what the S9 kit is. It is a good compromise vertical in my opinion.

As far as performance goes I couldn't be happier. I did add another 8 radials, so now there are 16. Made a notable difference. I know conditions are picking up but I am getting great reports and making DX contacts that I could not have before. I switch from my dependable dipole to the vertical and can punch through pile ups. Could my dipole be badly made? Perhaps, but a 132' dipole is fairly standard stuff. Maybe the vertical polarization is the secret to getting the DX??

You are right. Everyone is entitled to an opinion and I see no reason to block yours. I found this to be a high-quality kit option that was affordable and robust. I wound my own UNUN as I had always planned to do so I was not disappointed at all. If I had a 40' tree I could have hung a vertical wire, but since I don't this is a great solution for me. This is a free standing 44' vertical and I have no room for guys. Could you do it cheaper and just as good? Maybe, but I'm happy with the S9
