General anaesthesia at Great Ormond Street Hospital

Video of me being put to sleep for a surgery following a shunt infection 3 weeks before hand.

Surgery is to, have external drain removed (that drain thing Im seen holding at the beginning was attached to my brain through a thin tube.)
It was then to have a new shunt put back into my head to treat my arachnoid cyst/ hydrocephalus.
& also to have a subtemporal decompression (some skull removed in my temple area)

Hydrocephalus is a brain condition in which the brain is put under a lot of pressure by CSF (water/fluid that cushions the brain in a normal person)

This was my 15th brain surgery in 15 months at the time. So far so good as it was also my last since then. (Dec 2009)

Hey I have been watching your vids for a while now. How are you feeling after being shunt free.. Is it better?? I also have a shunt because I have a cyst in my brain . Doctors also told me I could be shunt free but it'll be risky. Any advise?? Btw you cute

I was only ever shunt free for 3 weeks back in june/july 09 :( my cyst fenestration failed miserably. So have had numerous shunts since.

If you are having problems with your shunt, then I would suggest going for it, however if your shunt is not causing you much trouble, then I would say just hang in there. It is a big op with big risks, much bigger risks than a shunt surgery. And thank you :$ x

Can you please tell me what they used for IV? I was told they gave me Propofol and it hurt so bad for about 15 seconds till I went under.

@deejaydaze It was propofol that was used here too.

Ive never had a bad experience with it, perhaps your pain was caused by a dodgy cannula? Ive had dodgy ones before and when ive had stuff such as fluids and pain relief pushed through them, its really really hurt. :)
