It is a common (lazy) argument to call feminists censors, but you will find that lads' mags censor women all the time. They only acknowledge women as sexual-for-men, stupid, and constantly horny. The text in the magazines is even more crass than the overtly sexual front covers. The people who write for lads' mags don't like women. They have suggested that men feed their girlfriends excrament. They have suggested that men suffocate their girlfriends to death. Why the hell are you defending them?

No one is saying that the models don't have freedoms and rights to do what they want to do - only that they contribute to a misogynist process which aims to stereotype women into certain roles which are then not respected and not taken seriously. Men who read lads' mags often associate the women they encounter with the women in the magazines and believe me, that is not a positive experience for a women. Also, most of these models are not well-educated. You just made that up.

Nonsense, fritostexasgrill. Most feminism nowadays is about working with men to make gender relations better. However, women still experience unequal pay, high levels of domestic violence, sexual objectification in public areas...how the hell can feminism be over when it's still working to put right these wrongs?

You may not want to be labelled one but your beliefs are 100% feminist!

So few, if any magazines cover these aspects other than the typical lads mags, that its no surprise they sell well as they cover all interests. Women are an interest to men, just as men are an interest to women, hence why Heat magazine has torso of the week. Granted, not the same amount of flesh is on display, however the principle remains the same: viewing something for aesthetic purposes regarding ones sexuality.
[Sorry so many comments, I drafted in word not thinking :) ]

After all, its expected.
Though we are ignoring the fact that these magazines have articles in, occasionally interesting ones, although I personally have a low tolerance for reading about mountain biking and football! But these magazines do cover that, which is also a reason why therere successful, pictures can only be looked at for so long, whereas the articles can be read and also educate.

Can you say that the men pictured in these magazines are there for a reason other than to be ogled? Or is it just that lewdness is more acceptable in the immoral, overly sexual gay culture?
-
Surely by fly leafing these magazines you are repressing women yourself as youre symbolising a wish to remove this line of work, thereby removing the choice that the models have to partake in this work also.
Im also curious as to your stance regarding the magazines that objectify men, such as The Gay Times, which also uses sex as a selling point, albeit to a gay male audience. Do you wish to remove these magazines from shelves also?

The women in the magazines have every right and every freedom to pose for their raunchy pictures. I could understand the opposition had they been kidnapped and beaten into appearing, but this is not the eastern European sex trade, this is women making their own choices to appear in these magazines. Often these women are educated to a high level, so stupidity cant be the reason either.

Jenrint,
While I can appreciate entirely a dislike of pornography, I find it lewd and disgusting and would like nothing more than to see its decline, I have to disagree with you actions in this video. Feminism has had its day, and now it seems to be more about persecuting men just for being men rather than gaining womens rights.
I am horrified that our society has come to this!
Young girls aspiring to be models for horny men to perv over; girls of 14 and younger..It's wrong.
Someone need's to teach these girls that they are far more talented than this..It's a slippery slope and few manage to get out of this career once they are in it.
The media constantly objectifies women; Through little things such as adverts..These need to change.
I AM NOT A FEMINIST! I just believe that no one should be degraded on such a way!!!

Just out of interest, why do you insist that you are not a feminist?

(continued, part 3!)..As Elizabeth points out, no-one has mentioned censorship. You seem to have misunderstood the point. It is about attitude change.
Finally, to assume that certain groups in society (class, sex, age, etc, re your middle class lefties comment) cannot support and campaign for certain issues is, I think, detrimental to the cause. Would you exclude heterosexual men from campaigning against the accepted rise of sexist porn culture?

(continued, part 2!)..feminist action INCLUDES fighting against the apparent accepted objectification and sexualisation of women, and this topic is absolutely fundamental. Perhaps you do not see that the issues covered in this film can be used to open debate about the restrictive sexualisation of women, accepted and normalised sexist behaviours amongst young men and women (who, importantly, form the next generation of attitudes), and sexual violence against women. (..continued)..

If you are focusing on unequal pay and the governments persecution of single mums as part of YOUR campaigning at the moment, fantastic.
Badnewswade,
If you have a sense of sistahood, youll recognise that all of the issues (many many more than the two you mention and those that I address in the film) are in fact interrelated and all need addressing. To me,
