I've always been fascinated with New York City; from the present to the past. This video explores NYC's past.

I was really practicing my editing. This comes from a collection of public domain films. The song used it "New York State of Mind" by Billy Joel.

LYRICS
_________________________
Some folks like to get away
Take a holiday from the neighbourhood
Hop a flight to Miami Beach
Or to Hollywood
But I'm taking a Greyhound
On the Hudson River Line
I'm in a New York state of mind

I've seen all the movie stars
In their fancy cars and their limousines
Been high in the Rockies under the evergreens
But I know what I'm needing
And I don't want to waste more time
I'm in a New York state of mind

It was so easy living day by day
Out of touch with the rhythm and blues
But now I need a little give and take
The New York Times, The Daily News

It comes down to reality
And it's fine with me 'cause I've let it slide
Don't care if it's Chinatown or on Riverside
I don't have any reasons
I've left them all behind
I'm in a New York state of mind

It was so easy living day by day
Out of touch with the rhythm and blues
But now I need a little give and take
The New York Times, The Daily News

It comes down to reality
And it's fine with me 'cause I've let it slide
Don't care if it's Chinatown or on Riverside
I don't have any reasons
I've left them all behind
I'm in a New York state of mind

I'm just taking a Greyhound on the Hudson River Line
'Cause I'm in a New York state of mind

  • I love this City...

  • Me too. I was just there for four days feeding the homeless. =)

  • Cracking video mate - keep em coming! Watched it about five times and you're right about NY being an intriguing place/inspirational City! We went a month ago for our Honeymoon -loved it!

  • And the best part is, the city never gets old! Its just so much fun to keep going back to. =)

    Thanks.

  • The beginning introduced it as 1947. I remember when the MetLife building was the PanAm building and I was born way after 1947.

    Still 5 Stars!!!

  • The beginning time lapse is present day silly. =P

  • NYC is well known and often praised for the huge melting pot that it is. I happen to believe there isnt ANYWHERE on earth like New York City. I love this city sooo much. Those of you who are my fellow native new yorks know how I feel I'm sure!!

  • i may just be a poor country boy under the stars and bars, but i hope to go to the big city someday looks cool, except for all the niggers, but awesome video maby some day

  • got that right. I wish I knew where my grandfathers movies of NYC were from before 1950. I love the city. Yes, you can easily "get lost" in NYC.

  • I like getting lost, especially in New York. Funny think is people always ask me directions. They look totally dejected when they hear my English accent. Greenwich Village and the lower east side are the most confusing.

  • @JerzeeGrind I'm also a proud, happy native NYer, (born in Bklyn!)...& I no most peopl n NY cherish the melting-pot attitude, (cause most --all?-- r immigrants or descendenats). Ambition & kindness thriv side-by-side in NY. Nowhere else in the world lik NY...NOW! But it wud b SO great if other cities cud LEARN 2 b LIK NY, and NY wud then b the FIRST of many compassionate metropolises...not just the only one.., We're AL human...mayb n a few decades...? The world can learn a LOT from NYC! Cheers!

  • WONDERFUL video, in GLORIOUS B&W! When was it made? is it pro or amateur? It shows of a lot of Manhattan....but there are 4 other boroughs, too! ALL in a "NY State of Mind"...whch is ambitious, forward-looking, tradition-honouring, welcome to ALL & loving all nations, knowing other places r wonderful, too, (that's what 'cosmopolitan' means), family- centered, tolerant & big-hearted, encouraging all! Efry city can b lik that! --from a proud native NYer! : )

  • @KENKENNIFF Sorry to hear that! I'm a nativ NYer, & getting around Manhattan, at least, is easy, cause al t streets r numbered n sequence! New Yorkers usually don't lik 2 b bothered...but if u REALLY need help, they're SO happy to be able to help! Really! (One day, I fel on a stone, whil crossing 5th Ave! Suddenly, 50 peopl wer there, asking 2 help me!) Just ASK, (peopl who look like they know where they are...not the others!) Or go to the Convent & Visitors Bureau! Hope this helps next time!

  • I got lost in New York loads of times

  • This is awesome!!!!! Now I'm in the mood to get lost in the city (even though thats impossible) This song is one of the greatest song about New York I ever heard. Also, I listen to this song when i'm in the bus passing to the city... Thanks for th video
