The health meters are only there when you view a demo or spectate. They aren't there when you're actually playing the game.

hmm. Maybe some frame rate conversion error, the match is 10 minutes+countdown but the video is only 9min 12sec. In any case, QW is still a fast game :P

Geez fucking shit!!!!! This is SICK!!! I've seen a lot in my life but I gotta say Quakeworld is by far the fastest game on Earth! It's insane how can You even aim at those speeds?!! And I thought Quake 3 Arena is fast. Huge respect guys. _o_

@smiechu47 I'm not sure if this is the reason, but when you die you drop your backpack with the last weapon you used, so he switches to the shotgun to prevent his opponent from having a good weapon when he's killed. It's useful in TDM where weapons are scarce, but I don't think it's much use in duel where it's easy to grab all the weapons you want.
