  • I know about the problems of the B-29, but 2-billion+ dollars to develop it???

  • @Brera011 It was indeed state of the art, but did have some teething problems. Worst among these was the tendency for the engines to overheat. The Superfort was at the extreme edge of its range in China, and it was very difficult to get fuel and other essential supplies to the bases. This was resolved when we took the Marianas Islands and built forward bases. Even so, the B 29 didn't come into its own until Gen. LeMay sent them on low-level inciendary raids at night.

  • For its days, in some things the B29 was way ahead in implementing new technology. Preasured cabines, remote controlled defence systems, altitude and speed for the largest plane of the era. Incredible, but wit a cost.
