The Scania N113CRBs were first introduced into the SBS Transit roster in 1989 with the introduction of the new Airbus and the last orders came in 1990. These buses have served for 18 years and is in a process of phasing out. The first buses were Non-Airconditioned and it was later decided to use 50 of the 200 chassis that was ordered to be fitted with Airconditioning. Only in 2000 when SBS took on the job of converting 100 of the 150 remaining Non-Aircon buses into Aircon Buses due to strict demands of the Land Transport Authority of full-aircon bus fleets. Only 50 Non-Aircon buses remain in operation and is the last Single-Deck Aircon to be in existence as all of them will be gone by December 2008.

The rego range for these buses is from 3572 - 3722 for the CAC/NAC batch and 31 - 80 for the OAC batch.

The N113s here came in with a factory stock gearbox by Scania but were converted to Voith DIWA series 3-speed gearbox during mid-life refurbishing in 2000 and 2001. This eventually led to reliability problems including vigorous vibration of the bus at idle.

These buses can be found in the Eastern side of Singapore with many serving Tampines and Bedok feeder services and some trunk routes like 19, 29, 18, 38, 39, 30, 40, 66, 33 and 32.

We will take a ride onboard a Scania N113CRB OAC as it makes it's way to the Changi Airport Cargo Complex. tintinspartan understands that no filming is allowed of the Cargo Complex and hence, the clip ends at the junction infront of the Pass Office. The Changi Airport Cargo Complex is a restricted area for your infomation.

  • I totally miss these buses. Still remember riding them often on route 238 to my late grandma's home in Toa Payoh as a child.

  • Nice sounding vehicle, sounds quite similar to a Mercedes Benz O.405N with the Voith gearbox option.

  • What was the gear shifting manner of the original Scania transmssion sets on these buses?

  • @wan1985

It is indeed an in-line six-cylinder, a Scania DSC11 to be exact, and is (possibly) direct-injected.

  • my last ride in this buses was in bus 38.. i just love the "turbo whistling" sound when the bus accelerates.. wat engine does this bus model have? straight 6 TDI?

  • Service 19?
