The Super Surf Pods, dubbed the 'best beach huts in the world', have been designed by Wayne and Geraldine Hemingway, best known for their Red or Dead fashion label. The beach huts will be central to the regeneration of an unkempt mid-century building in Boscombe, Dorset, turning it into an oasis of stylish holiday cosiness with spectacular panoramic views of Boscombe Bay and Europe's first artificial surf reef.

Traditional beach huts encapsulate the best of the British seaside and these Pods take the huts to the next level. Pod owners can have theirs custom-built, with running water and electricity. No more boiling the kettle on a wobbly, windy gas burner. They are self-sufficient and fashionable, complementing the many activities and attractions along the sea-front. If it is raining, there is a cafe, restaurant and surf shops in the building to mooch around. The rooms, meanwhile, have big retro-style murals of beautiful people enjoying the 50s seaside lifestyle, in tribute to the building's heritage.

As the economic downturn and global-warming hit consumers, some are predicting a renaissance in the British seaside holiday and these 21st-century beach huts are fun, efficient and reflect all the qualities of a great domestic break.
