  • also, Smith Machine Squats are trash. Do free weight squats. Hell, do free weight everything. The only machines you should use are cable machines that allow you to create your own range of motion.

  • I use everything. The smith machine is great for me because I don't have a spotter so I can really load plates and hit heavier sets. I usually do free barbell squats as well but not with as much weight. In fact I alternate workouts with them.

     I use also a neck pad for comfort. I don't think using it is a sissy thing....then again, I am a GIRL :) However, I can squat way better and longer than most guys at the gym.

  • @Norstomulance commented already 6x mr olympia used a smith machine and hack squat not free weights... and whats wrong with safely not wanting to tear the shit out or your back/neck skin? train safe to train longer buddy

  • @DaleMcCobb if im not mistaken 6x mr olympia dorian yates used smith machine and hack squats only. he never did free weight squats. a smith machine actually allows you to safely change your range and body placement to make it safer than free weight squats. you can move your legs out, close, and even one leg with your rear leg on a bench all safer than you can with free weight squats.

  • i have yet to watch one bodybuilding video where they didnt use a little bit of everything in atleast one part of their training. so again... to you guys who are stuck on one piece of equipment... its your loss you will be stuck in your basement posing for youtube videos your whole life.

    free weights, machines, cables, bodyweight training... all methods for a bodybuilder to maximize his potential. for all you guys who get their heads stuck around free weights or machines and dont use everything you have around you are the ones who will never make it past the beginner level. watch any pro/ whether is be natural or steroids... they all use free weights, cables, machines, and bodyweight exercises
