Catch Me Chapter 5

Can I ask a question, though? What could he possibly want to know about my boring life? I stared down at my feet and nodded. Why do you stay with David if he pushes you around like that all the time? When I didnt reply right away he tried to take it back. I mean, you dont have to answer if its to personal, I was just wondering Because it doesnt really seem like your happy.. I dont know.. Ive never told anyone about David being so abusive. Everyone knew he didnt treat me right, but no one knows how far hes actually gone. I dont know if Ive never told anyone because Ive been scared of what theyll think, or because Ive never had anyone to tell I stayed quiet for a while until I just randomly sat on the grass. Joe looked at me weird and sat down beside me. Sorry.. He said, thinking his question was too personal. Maybe it was, but I wanted to answer it anyone. I hate David. I whispered. I didnt think he heard me, but I guess he did. So, why do you stay with him? This didnt take me as long to answer, but I still paused to think about it. Its complicated.

JOES POV
Its complicated. Seeing her in so much pain put knots in my stomach. Ive gotten myself way too deep. Ive never gained feelings for someone so fast. And Its really scaring me. Mostly because its a girl that I could never have, and will never have a future with.
Ive delt with complicated things before. I said a little quietly.
Like what? She scoffed, like she didnt believe me.
Lets just say with all the death Ive seen, I could never imagine doing what you tried to do today. I dont know why I said that, it just slipped out. I think what I said made her angry. Well, I guess everyone has a different life, and everyone deals with things in different ways. And with that she stood up. I-I didnt mean it like that. I said chasing after her. Mhmm She replied sarcastically. Just stop trying to act like you know everything about me, because you dont. She stopped to turn and look at me. I know I dont, but Id like to if youd let me. She looked taken back. Why? She whispered. I didnt exactly have an answer for her. Because. I paused. I think I could help. I dont know if thats completely true. But I definitely want to try.

ALEXIS POV
His words gave me butterflies, abut I was determined not to show them. I felt as if they would fly out of my stomach and flutter around his flawless skin. Thats when the sprinklers started to go off. He grabbed my hand and we ran inside as fast as we could. Lunch was now over and I had to go to my next class. Thanks for talking. I said simply and turned to walk to my locker. Joe grabbed my arm and turned me around. We could do it again sometime. He said with hopeful eyes. I sighed. I have a boyfriend, Joe. And with that I turned around and walked away.

JOES POV
The rest of the day was a drag. I had my last class of the day with Alexis, and I tried sitting by her but she just ignored me. I dont know what I did wrong. I cant control it, I just want to be around her all the time. But most importantly, I feel like its my job to keep her safe now. She really needs a hero in her life, and if her boyfriend isnt going to do it, I guess Ill take the job application and do my best.

A week has gone by, and Ive talked to Alexis here and there, but shes overall just ignoring me. I dont understand what I did. The tension between David and I is unbearable. I mean weve never been friends, but weve never been enemies. Thats definitely not the case anymore

After school I decided I wanted to go to her house to talk to her. See if shes okay, and see if we could finish our converstion that we never got to finish the other day. I looked up her address in our school directory and made my way to her house a few hours after school was over, to make sure she would be home. I know she plays volleyball a lot, so Im sure she had some sort of practice after school. I rang her doorbell, and no one answered. I waited at the door for a couple more minutes when I heard a huge bang coming from inside the house. I put my ear to the door and I heard yelling. I tried to make out what they were saying, but it was hard.
DAVID I HAVE TO GO TO PRACTICE!
FINE, GO! BUT YOULL PAY LATER! Another bang and I heard her shriek. That was enough for me, I started banging on the door furiously. The curtains next to the front door were moved to the side and replaced with Alexis hurt eyes. Her face was bloody and bruised. That did it. I started ramming into the door. Until David opened it. He grabbed me by the shirt and slammed his forehead to mine. Who do you think you are?! HUH?! Thats when I punched him.

David probably doesn't like her talking to other guys you know? and she's probably scared. okay i'm done rambling now. but it was more than 2 words, right?
