Every seven years the Buddhist temple near our home opens the doors of its most sacred sanctuary in order to display the 1000 arm Kannon statue. Kannon is a significant figure within the Buddhist tradition and is thought to represent compassion. This figure is sometimes depicted with 1000 arms which are considered symbolic of the ability to embrace and alleviate all the worlds suffering.
