These extremely cool Tie Fighter and X-wing kites were on sale at Target, so we grabbed 'em and headed for the beach. Too bad it wasn't an especially windy day...

  • The TIE fighter kite is one of the worst commercially made kites, ever, The fittings are expected to grip the thin rods, but don't, because they're not made for that purpose, so it tends to explode when it hits the ground, Also, out-of-the-box, the front bridle line (or lines?) is too short relative to the rear one. There's a series of knots on one of them, and a loop that can tighten around any one of them. Find the knot that gives the highest angle of attack, and start from there.

  • @orthicon9 Thanks for the info!

  • You weren't giving it enough string. The X-fighter would have flew fine.

  • @sososcary Thanks, I'll keep that in mind if we attempt to fly them again. I think the biggest problem is that it just wasn't windy enough.

  • I think you have to attach the black "tails" that came with it. i think they are intended to keep the tie fighter facing forward so it can get lift. i have the same one but i haven't had a good day yet that i can take it out. Hope this helps. :)

  • @abstrakt303 Thank you. I don't recall any black tails coming with either kite, but I'll double check if and when I take them out again.
