There is a recording from November 1929 where the lyrics are sung by Gene Austin (still fresh from his hit recording of "My Blue Heaven", history's very first million seller) and Fats is on piano. The story goes that the white musicians on the date refused to be in the same room with Fats while recording. On the other hand, Andy Sannella and Carl Kress are alleged to have been present, and with their heavy jazz orientation, I can't imagine that either of them, at least, would have objected.

My father sang her songs, when he was well humoured. So I knew them before I had the originals.

Singing a great song by the Harmful Little Armful -- Fats Waller.

I like Fats Waller's piano solo of this tune he recorded for Victor in 1929. It is nice to hear the lyrics to the tune on the Baker recording. I hadn't heard them before.
