TRANS GROUP TO LEAD NYC GAY PRIDE PARADE 6/28/ 2009

Trans people & their supporters will be in the first contingent of NYC's Gay Pride Parade on Sunday, 6/28/2009. Gathering on 56th St. between 5th Ave & Madison, "The Sons & Daughters of Sylvia Rivera" will celebrate the "mother" of the transgender liberation movement - Sylvia Rivera. Vanessa Edwards is urging others to arrive early since they step off at 11:00 am. Trans people may also want to visit 'Sylvia Rivera Way" at the corner of Hudson &* Christopher Streets where the parade actually ends. Alyssa Harley bought flowers & we all taped them to the pole as shown in the last part of this video.

Crikey, the storm comes fast in NY. It looks different having your parade in the day. Our is at night in the Sydney G&L Mardi Gras in Australia. I guess the US pride parades have more political messages and have more slogans. Sydney Mardi Gras is more synchronized dancing, queer marching and the messages are kinda subversive but still there... Its great to see the transgenders have some recognition there. This was after the annual "Trans Day of Action" which was on Friday. The big Gay Pride Parade is on Sunday 6/28/2009. We're making signs now to carry in the "Sons & Daughters of Sylvia Rivera" contingent. Outlook for tomorrow is lots of sun & heat. Parade begins at 11:00 am and doesn't end till about 5:00 pm. It's really huge. Greetings of love to everyone in Australia from the LGBT folks in the USA !
