LISTEN IN STEREO: Add &fmt=18 to the end of the URL!

Website: http://lmms.sf.net

Software: LMMS (Linux MultiMedia Studio), 100% free music composition software for Linux

LMMS has seen big improvements since the 0.3 series. I was surprised to load it up and see more instruments and tools, a prettier interface, and a much more stable music creation system.

Of note are the Vestige VST plugin, which allows Windows VSTs to be used (I tested the Superwave P8 and it worked very well); the C64 SID emulator, Gameboy emulator, and SF2 (SoundFont) import.

I have been using ALSA instead of Jack and can report very low CPU usage and good sound quality.

Apologies for the handheld video!

P.S., the story in the annotations is completely true. I guess I was about 9 years old when it happened.

  • sorry, this isnt his music. this is the default that comes with the lmms download. Practically you stole the first part and the chorus. Thumbs up so this comment goes higher so people can see

  • @hopefulbeef "Practically you stole the first part and the chorus" <--- huh? This is THE demo tune that comes with LMMS. I haven't modified it at all.

  • Hey there,

how do i connect it with jack or how i use jack?

My demos inside sound harsh .. no clue what's up with that. cuz would like to make sounds in the direction of paul van dyk and atb =) more like dream techno or however it's gonna be called =)

    Thanks

  • You would select JACK as the audio backend in LMMS settings.

LMMS developers seem to have emphasized the "out of the box" use of ALSA in LMMS, though. If you want to use JACK, make sure you have at least LMMS 0.4.6.

There aren't a lot of really "dreamy" sounds included with LMMS as presets; take a look at the ZynAddSubFX instrument. There are some downloadable parameters out there with excellent trance configurations.

  • K i got that running but if i want to play one of the including demo songs ..my jackserver kicks me off and i have trouble everytime?aNY CLUE what is wrong?

  • Could be a lot of things. Do other JACK apps work OK, like Ardour or RoseGarden? Also, try running LMMS with "gksudo LMMS" and see if that works better -- some have said it does.

  • Very good!. Arriba Linux !!!!

  • i wanna start using this but for some resone i have no audio coing from speaker or headphones please help

  • Great!

  • @samragga try not using jack, try using alsa or pulseaudio. jack support of lmms is not perfect. you can also try putting the latency way up when using jack - it solves the problem for me for most of the time.
