Overprotective (A Jonas Sister Story) Chapter 4

Kayla's P.O.V

I heard footsteps come into the room and I looked up to see my brothers standing in front of me with their arms folded. This was not going to end well. And boy was I right.
Kevin -- "Alright missy, start talking."
I took a deep breath and looked into Nick's eyes.
Kayla -- "Nicky, I'm so sorry. I know I worried you -- "
Nick -- "You got that right!"
Joe punched him in the arm and he groaned.
Kevin -- "Don't interrupt." He nodded at me to continue.

Kayla -- "I got caught up talking to Bridget about our dance showcase. Then as I was walking to Nick's car, I literally ran into Jordon."
I saw Nick clench his fists at the mention of his name, but I ignored it.
Kayla -- "We got to talking then I remembered that Nick was picking me up and that he'd most likely be freaking out. So Jordon offered to walk me to Nick's car. That's all."

Nick -- "That's all?" He had a protective edge in his usually calm voice.
Kayla -- "Yes that's all." I was beginning to get confused, this was not like my brother at all.
Nick -- "Are you sure, because that's not what it looked like to me."
I was taken back a bit. Yes Nick was protective of me, all of my brothers were. But Nick had never behaved like this towards me. Then something clicked inside my brain. I thought for a second before replying.

Kayla -- "Wait a minute, are you mad at me because I was late? Or because a boy was with me?"
Nick's eyes widened to the size of dinner plates and Joe and Kevin exchanged glances. I knew instantly that that was the answer.
Kayla -- "It is! I-I can't believe it! I honestly can't believe it! That's why you're mad at me? Because a boy was with me?"
Kevin -- "Baby girl -- "
Kayla -- "Don't baby girl me Kev."
I was on my feet now, I could feel the anger bubbling inside me. Like magma waiting to erupt out of a volcano.

Kayla -- "Do you not trust me enough for me to talk boys other than Dylan?"
Nick -- "Kayla it's not that I don't trust you," he began. All his anger seemed to have disappeared. He now looked conflicted.
Kayla -- "Than what is it! Look me in the eye and tell me why a boy talking to me is so wrong. Why are you always so overprotective?"
They looked at each other and sighed. We stood there in silence for about a minute until Joe spoke up.

Joe -- "Sweetie you know we have reasons for being as protective as we are. "
Kayla -- "Reasons that you n-never seem to w-want to tell me!"
I was starting to choke on my words, so I knew I was about to cry. Sure enough I felt tears forming in my eyes, blurring my vision. I hated us fighting, it hurt me deep down.
Nick -- "It's not that we don't want to tell you Kay."

I could tell that he was also starting to get upset. He hated us fighting just as much as I did. But that didn't change anything . I wanted answers and I was determined to get them.
Kayla -- "Then tell me Nick!" I shrieked and I saw the boys jump a little. I took a deep breath and softened my expression a little.
Kayla -- "I'm sorry, but I think I deserve to know why my brothers feel the need to be so overprotective."
They looked at each other and shook their heads. By this time I'd had enough. They obviously weren't giving in. So I ran out of the room and up the stairs. I could hear the guys telling me to come back, but I ignored them and ran straight into my room. I slammed the door and locked it behind me. I launched myself onto my bed and sobbed heavily into my pillows.
