"Whispering Alleys"
Winner of the Mayor's Award at the Akko Alternative Theater Festival 2009

Description of the play: The play is designated for a specific place (city, neighborhood, area) and occurs through wandering and walking through this locality and relating its story using various artistic expressions.
The special style of the play combines the transmission of information (testimonies of elderly residents of the locality) through headphones, which the audience will have from the beginning of the performance through to its end, to be integrated with non-verbal acting segments which take place in specific parts of the locality.
The acting segments create the emotional description of events and situations entwined in the history of the locality and are interrelated to the testimonies. The play is not a historical reconstruction and there is no intention of attempting to reproduce a certain period, event or customs, but to deal with those concealed emotional layers, which are connected to the lives of the inhabitants today and to the history of the locality.

The surroundings, the walls and the alleys that were silent witnesses to the private and public events that happened there and molded the lives of its inhabitants, invite us, the audience, on a unique experiential journey, enabling an acquaintance from another viewpoint. The residents living in the alleys along the path of this journey take on an enormous part that is inseparable from the experience.
Opposing voices from the past and the present accompany us on our journey as they whisper their stories to us in an intimate (earphones) and personal way.
The journey brings us to contemporary places that are immersed in experiences of the past. Segments of non-verbal puppet theater create an intense dialogue with our emotions. Without explanations to guide us, wandering through the alleys, in dialogue with our emotions by listening to the testimonies of elderly inhabitants as they tell of the not so distant past that has imprinted its stamp on contemporary life, the audience discovers a new dimension in the locality, which penetrates by means of their senses.
