plowshare was such a useless project..
how about simply digging those tiny craters.. without polluting the whole area?
me and a good excavator do these in a day..much cheaper and without all the radioactivity

Funnily enough, peaceful nuclear explosions (PNEs) are also the only way to make fusion economically viable, as well as even possible, in this current day and age. The PACER project employed mini-fusion bombs in underground domes lined with a molten salt blanket to absorb the heat energy from the blast for conversion into electricity. It worked remarkably well, producing 1000 times more energy than typical nuclear and coal plants, while using less space. It could also transmute fissile fuel too.
